I am receiving more and more small cd's (about 3' in diameter vs standard 5') and I have not yet put these into my MacBook. Can I and will they work and be ejected etc.??
No they will not work or eject. Read this Types of disk allowed
If not, why not-- and is there an adapter available to clip the smaller cd inot a 5' holder-- I remember something like that for music (single) cd's from back in the early 1990's-- but will that work in my MacBook?
Slot load drives aren't made for any odd size or shaped disks. You would need a tray load external to use these disks.

- You’ll never have to worry about lost cables with the Apple USB SuperDrive. It connects to your MacBook Pro with Retina display, MacBook Air, iMac or Mac mini with a single USB Type-A cable that’s built into the SuperDrive. There’s no separate power adapter, and it works whether your Mac is plugged in or running on battery power.
Power adapters for Mac notebooks are available in 29W, 30W, 45W, 60W, 61W, 85W, and 87W varieties. You should use the appropriate wattage power adapter for your Mac notebook. You can use a compatible higher wattage adapter without issue, but it won't make your computer charge faster or operate differently. Lower wattage adapters don't provide enough power.
